He was an educator who began his teaching career in 1895 in Stewart County, Tennessee. He moved to Georgia in 1907 to become superintendent of the Toccoa city schools and later the Stephens County schools. In 1920 he became superintendent of the Hartwell, Georgia city school system where he remained for seven year. In 1944 he was named assistant state superintendent of schools in Georgia, under M. D. Collins, and held such post until his retirement in 1954.
