The family of Meyer Michael Allon is sad to announce his passing at 93 years on Saturday, January 14, 2006 after a brief illness. Born to Morris and Esther Allon in Johnstown, PA on January 2, 1913, Mr. Allon was raised in Pittsburgh's East End and graduated from Peabody High School and Carnegie Institute of Technology. After he received his B.S. degree in Geology he worked as a Geophysicist for Gulf Oil from 1935 to 1945. While with Gulf, he worked in the Pittsburgh Head Office, as well as, in Venezuela, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Alberta, Canada. As the Head of Gulf's first seismic crew in Alberta, he was instrumental in the discovery of the largest natural gas field in North America. After his departure from Gulf Oil, he joined his father and his brother, Joseph, at Morris Allon & Company, which later became Treasure Island Department Stores, Inc. In 1948, along with his brother, he founded the Alberta Exploration Company Limited, a petroleum exploration and development company, which he led for 54 years. A devoted husband and father, he was married to the late Marcella (Grekin) Allon for 50 years. They are survived by four sons, John Allon of Fairfield, IA, Steven & Gloria Allon of Elkins Park, PA, Edward & Ruthe Allon of Oak Park, MI and Jeffrey & Michelle Allon of Elkins Park, PA; brother of Joseph (Marjorie) Allon of Pittsburgh; grandfather of Jacob, Congetta, Jonathan & Matthew Allon; Ephriam, Moshe, Sara, Shoshana, Batsheva & Zev Allon; Ariel, Liana, Ashira, Neveh, Ma'Ayan, Hallel, Moriah & D'Vir Allon. Also survived by five nieces and nephews. Services at Schugar Chapel, Centre Ave., Shadyside, on Monday at 2 pm. Visitation 1 hr. prior to services (1-2 pm). Interment, B'nai Israel Cemetery.
