Chief Engineer Dies
In Reading Hospital


Adam D. Althouse, 73, of 1711 N. 15th St., chief engineer of the Reading Hospital for the past 26 years, died yesterday in that hospital.
Althouse, who headed the institution's mainteaance force, was affiliated with Reading Society, 20th Century Quakers, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Reading.
Born in Bern Township and a son of the late Solomon and Clara (Ahrens) Althouse, he was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical and Reformed Church.
Althouse, whose first wife, Ernestine (Schoellkopf) Althouse, died in 1933, is survived by his second wife, Estella V. (Ermel) Althouse; a son, Harlan E., Clifton, N.J., a step-son, Jacob L. Wentzel, West Lawn; a step-daughter, Ruth, wife of Emanuel Waetzman, Reading; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the T.C. Auman, Inc., Funeral Parlors, the Rev. Ralph D. Althouse, a nephew, officiating. Burial will be made in Charles Evas Cemetery.
Arrangements are in charge of the L. W. Ott Funeral Home, Boyertown.
