Johnny L. "Byrd" Ambrose

Johnny Larry Ambrose affectionately known as "Byrd" was born April 1, 1964 to the union of Willie C. and Florence Campbell Ambrose. Johnny departed this life on December 2, 2011 at the G.V. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He was preceded in death his parents, Willie C. and Florence; sisters, Lucille Boyd and Luella Washington.

Johnny professed Christ at an early age and joined Goodman Missionary Church,. The struggles and stress of everyday life often causes one to waiver in their faith and Johnny was no exception. However, as it is stated in Psalms 37:23, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and being a good and obedient man".

Johnny attended schools in Holmes County at Goodman Pickens Elementary (1978) and graduating from Durant Attendance Center (1982). After graduation, Johnny became a member of the United States Army National Guard of Mississippi in December 1986. While serving active duty in the Army National Guard, Johnny ranked as a SGT and participated in the Desert Shield Storm from December 1990 to May 1991, where he achieved certificates for excellence performances. Also, Johnny received various other certificates from the United States Army National Guard of Mississippi. In July 1995, he was honorably discharged.

During his lifetime, he was employed by Holmes County Schools and Piggly Wiggly in Pickens, Mississippi as a stocker.

Johnny leaves to cherish his memories: six sisters, Leatha Ambrose and Louvenia W. Young of Goodman, Mississippi; Minnie and Paralee Wilkins of Moorhead, Mississippi; Vinnie L. Ambrose and Betty Washington of Chicago, Illinois; one aunt, Classie Groves of Goodman, Mississippi; one uncle A.B. (Bernice) Ward of Gary, Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
