Charles Everett Ames died Monday, July 9, 2001. He was 87. Charles was born on February 6, 1914 in Beaumont, Texas but spent most his lifetime in Houston. He was a graduate from San Jacinto High School and the University of Houston. As a young man, he worked for GMAC and then went to work for Stewart & Stevenson for 41 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 65 years. He was also a member of the Merchant Marines, the Shriner's, the Engineer's Club, and was a member Masonic Lodge #1 A.F. & A.M.

Mr. Ames was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marian Nester Ames.

He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary Jablonowski; son, Charles Nester Ames; grandson, Bob Jablonowski and wife, Diane, and their children, Westin Robert and Kendall Ames Jablonowski; granddaughter, Elizabeth J. Styers and husband, John David Styers, and their children, John David and Brittany Elizabeth Styers; granddaughter, Suzanne J. Shivitz and husband, Mickey Shivitz, and their children, Merritt Ames, Reagan Marie, and Riley Anne Shivitz; and constant companion and family friend, Martha Robinson.

A private graveside service for family will be conducted at Glenwood Cemetery. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 o'clock in the morning on Thursday, July 12, 2001, at First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main, followed by a reception. Rev. Asa Hunt will be officiating.
