Mr. Anastasia, 80, lived on Monmouth Place. He was born and lived all his life here.
He was a self-employed pharmacist for more than 50 years before retiring in 1978.
Mr. Anastasia graduated from the Columbia University College of Pharmacy, New York, in 1924.
He graduated in 1921 from the old Chattle High School, which was later named after him.
Mr. Anastasia served on the Board of Education for 25 years beginning in 1951. He was president of the board for 11 years.
Mr. Anastasia was a member of the New Jersey Pharmaceutical Association, the Rotary Club and the Long Branch Chamber of Commerce.
In 1977, Mr. Anastasia received the Louis G. Libutti Memorial Award from the Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce for his participation in the business community and for dedicated public service.
Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys Magnani; two daughters, Elaine Cocuzza and Joyce Pedone, here; a sister, Ann, here; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
