Allen J. Anderson, 91, The Villages, FL, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015. Allen enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and served his country as Radioman First Class for 4 years during WWII, predominantly in the South Pacific. He was stationed on the USS Sanborn and present during the invasion and flag raising on the island of Iwo Jima. Allen spent his youth and young adulthood in California retiring as the Assistant Director of the state of California’s Alcoholic Beverage Control. After retirement, he spent 27 years enjoying his life in Kailua, Hawai'i. Allen was a devoted husband and father. In his younger years he was an avid outdoorsman – camping, motorcycle riding, boating, water skiing and golfing. In later life he enjoyed music, fine dining, writing children’s stories for his grandchildren, reading and working on the computer. He enjoyed The Villages lifestyle. He is survived by his loving wife Donna of 44 years, his four children: Don (Kathy) of California; Diane Nygaard of Colorado; Linda Flake (Matt) of Arizona; Jamie Andersen (Dan) of Idaho; 15 Grandchildren; 21 Great Grandchildren (and twin boys on the way); his sister Karen Leonard (Steve) of California and various cousins in Hawai'i. He will be interred in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. No services are planned at this time. A celebration of Allen’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162.
