Georgiette Anderson Allums, 98, of Ellisville, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Ellisville First United Methodist Church, with burial in the Ellisville Cemetery. The Rev. Jeff Shannon will officiate.
She was a lifelong resident of Jones County. She touched the lives of many Jones County residents during her 35 year teaching career at JCAHS and South Jones High School. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Ellisville. She was a member of the Women's Society for Christian Services, founding member of the Holly and Ivy Street Garden Club of Ellisville, charter member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Tallahala Chapter. She was among the first classes to graduate from Jones County Junior College. She was also one of the first females to graduate from Ole Miss.
Mr. and Mrs. Allums celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 20, 1984.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos Deason Anderson and Laura Frances Bailey Anderson, husband, R. E."Slim" Allums; brothers, Benny Anderson, Grover Anderson, R.M. Anderson, Sid Anderson, A.D. Anderson, Jr.; sisters, Juliette Anderson Lawrence, Dale Sparrow, Audrey Davis, Jo Davis Harrison and son-in-law, Gus Carraway.
She is survived by five daughters, Annette Curtis and her husband, Ed of Dallas, Texas, Laura Katherine Mitchell and her husband Jack of Mandeville, Louisiana, Sarah Kuhnell and her husband Chuck of Summerville, South Carolina, Bobbye Carraway of Gulfport and Becky Collins and her husband Wyatt of New Iberia, Louisiana, and Nancy Weems of Ellisville, her daughter through love; grandchildren, Kevin, Brian, Clay Curtis and Katy Curtis Hill, Matthew and David Kuhnell and Melissa Kuhnell Haynes, Rebecca Carraway Baldwin, Rhye McLeod and Cricket McLeod; brothers, D. R. Anderson of Ellisville, Tom Anderson of Madison; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; whom she loved dearly.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Kevin Curtis, Brian Curtis, Clay Curtis, Fred Hill, Scott Baldwin, Matthew Kuhnell, David Kuhnell and Rhye McLeod. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Anderson, Buck Anderson, Paul Cotton, Mack Haynes, Matthew Haynes, James Holifield, Jim Landrum, Dave Purvis, Bill Sparrow and Frank Therrell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jones County Junior College R.E. and Georgiette Allums Scholarship fund.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2008, at Jones Funeral Home of Ellisville, which is in charge of arrangements.
