Mrs. Abigail Andrus, of Clarendon, widow of the late Enoch Andrus, departed from this life for the "better land" on Thursday, August 26th, 1886, aged sixty-two years. Nearly forty years of her married life were spent beneath one roof-tree. She was one of those sweet spirits that would flood any home with sunshine and joy. Thoughtful, considerate, devoted to the interest of others, especially the sick, as well as those of her own household. She was a devoted wife, an affectionate mother, a loving sister and a good neighbor. When she saw and felt that the silent messenger was on his way and would soon knock at the door she once fancied was secure, she was ready to bid him welcome. She cherished no fears as regards the other life, for, from childhood, she had been rocked in the cradle of that faith which embraces all of God's children in the arms of mercy and love.
Within the space of four months, husband and wife, the father and mother, have passed on to the higher life.
The funeral services over all that was mortal of Mrs. Andrus, took place at her late home on Sunday, Rev. Thos. Borden, of Albion, officiating. A large number of friends and neighbors gathered in and about the old home to bear testimony to the widespread esteem in which the departed was held. The floral offerings were appropriate and beautiful. The singing was full of melody and sweetness, and every way adapted to the occasion.
Three children survive the worthy couple: Britt Andrus, Mrs. Cora V. Munger and Mrs. Sarah Ann Crossett [the daughter of her father's first wife Hannah, who died in 1833]. One sister passed on before Mrs. Andrus to the land where the flowers never die. There still walk this earth one brother, David H. Davis, of Mich., and five sisters, Lorana C. Pennell, of Mich., Loretta S. Britt, of Ridgeway, Susanna F. Cramer, Eusebia E. Caswell and Josephine N. Johnson, of Clarendon.
