Aged Couple Found Dead
Ellington — Grieving over the death of his eighty-year-old wife, Adelbert L. Andrus, eighty-three, hanged himself at their home here. His body and that of his wife were found frozen at the home Sunday morning.
Curious because three feet of snow lay untouched around the house, Fred Bargar, who delivered milk to the couple, called sheriffs officers Sunday and with them discovered the tragedy.
The body of Mrs. Minerva C. Lorenz Andrus was found carefully laid out in her bed in the farmhouse. A note left by her husband said she had died a natural death Thursday morning.
Andrus' body was found hanging from the ceiling of the milk house. Both bodies were frozen, the wood fires in the house having burned down to ashes.
A certificate of death by natural causes was issued by Coroner Samuel T. Bowers for Mrs. Andrus, and a certificate of death by suicide was issued for her husband.
The following note, addressed to the coroner, was made public by Mr. Bowers:
"Please notify my daughter.
"Mr. Coroner:
"When you get this my beloved little wife and self shall have passed beyond. She has been a brave sufferer for a long time. She was born in Rutledge in 1860, daughter of Raymond and Sara Lorenz. She passed away naturally at 10 a. m., January 4. As for me I am sick and most blind and care not to stay longer. I was born in 1857. Please turn all papers over to my daughter, Ebba A. Lloyd, 10 Bourne St., Flushing, L. I."
