Jennie Angelico, 80, a longtime Dongan Hills resident who is remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, died yesterday at Clove Lakes Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Castleton Corners, where she had resided for seven years.
Born and raised Jennie Trani in Brooklyn, she moved to Dongan Hills in 1967.
Mrs. Angelico worked for A&P for twenty years. She began working for the supermarket chain in 1975 and retired in 1995 from the Rosebank store.
She most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Angelico also enjoyed visiting Atlantic City, playing bingo, and watching her favorite baseball team, the New York Mets.
"She had a heart of gold, and was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. She will be truly missed by all," said her daughter, Karen Gallo.
Along with her daughter, Karen, Mrs. Angelico is survived by her daughters, Rachel Compono, Maria Holderman, and Donna Grazo; two sisters, Anna Santomarco and Brigid Bongiorni; a brother, Louis Trani; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from the Casey-McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, New Dorp.
Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, also New Dorp.
