BIDDEFORD - Aristide "Sid" Angers, 87, of South Street, died Monday morning at The Renaissance, after a long illness. He was born on January 20, 1918, in Thetford Mines, Quebec, Canada, a son of Cyrial and Adelia Huot Angers. He came to the local area as a young child and was educated in Biddeford schools. He was employed by Pepperell Manufacturing Company and the Saco Lowell Shops in Biddeford. He served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. On September 29, 1947, he married Agnes B. Boucher in St. Joseph's Church, Biddeford. For 26 years, he owned and operated Angers Variety Store on Bradbury Street and later owned and operated Angers Community Store on Elm and South streets, before retiring in 1973. He last worked seven years with Saco Defense Corporation in Saco. He was involved in coaching Little League baseball for West Biddeford Little League. He served as a city councilman at large under the Leo Lemire Administration, police commissioner under the Lucien Dutremble and Roger Frechette administrations and later served as councilman for Ward 6 under the Robert Farley Administration. He served on the credit committee of St. Joseph's Federal Credit Union. He was an active member of St. Joseph's Church, serving as an usher and as a director of St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a member of the American Legion Post 26. He was a founding and charter member of AMVETs 1, a life member of La Societe St. Jean Baptiste de Bienfaisance and a member of Biddeford-Saco Elks. He enjoyed the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes B. Boucher on February 9, 1995, six brothers and seven sisters. He is survived by: four sons, Aime D. Angers of Jacksonville, NC, Luc A. Angers (and his wife, Andrea) of Biddeford, Marc A. Angers (and his wife, Susan) of Biddeford, Roch A. Angers (and his wife, Colombe) of Biddeford; one daughter, Helene G. Totos (and her husband, Roman) of Biddeford; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
