KILLS UNCLE ON COURT HOUSE STEPS
By The Associated Press.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Dec. 4. - Albert Ankrom, aged Polk county farmer was shot to death with a shotgun by his nephew, Henry Coursey, 38, on the court house steps at Bolivar, Mo., this morning,
Yesterday Ankrom was reported to have “pulled a gun” on his brother, and an officer went out to arrest him. Instead of taking him into Bolivar, however, the officer instructed him to appear in justice court at Bolivar this morning.
Ankrom did so, and made bond. Coursey, accompanied by his wife who stood at his wide during the shooting, followed the old man to town. He said he “came to town to see that he doesn’t some back.” As Ankrom walked down the steps of the court house after making bond, witnesses said, Coursey shot him from nearly the whole way across the square - then ran forward, and shot him again, from shorter range, as he fell.
Bystanders carried the old man a few feet, and laid him on the grass. He died within a few moments. Coursey immediately gave himself up.
“I’ve done what I wanted to do - now do whatever you want to with me,” he told Sheriff Jack Killingsworth. A big and excited crowd gathered quickly. Killingsworth took Coursey to the Greene county jail here.
