Hugh was the youngest child of Miles Gilbert (Bert) Applegate and Martha Ann Jackson Applegate, both deceased.
The family moved to Sand Springs when Hugh was 7 years old where his father owned and operated City Feedstore. Hugh married Thelma Geraldean (Geri) Hile Applegate on September 25, 1938. They were married for 67 years when Geri passed away April l4th of this year, Hugh followed in his family's footsteps by owning several feed stores in the area and serving the community with honesty, integrity and generosity. Hugh and Geri owned Applegate Feed and Farm Supply west of Sand Springs when they retired in 1984.
Hugh was preceded in death by his wife, Geri; six siblings, Lester Applegate, Ernest Applegate, Charlie Applegate, Roy Applegate, Ella Applegate Miller and Elma Applegate; and an infant son, Gary Lloyd Applegate.
Hugh served his country with pride during World War II.
Hugh and Geri belonged to the Sand Springs Seventh Day Adventist Church, where they were involved with everything from building improvements to mission work.
Hugh was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the bounty of vegetables he harvested each year. Hugh was known for his quick wit, keen intelligence and kind heart.
He is survived by his sister; three daughters; two sons-in-law; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many beloved family members and friends.
Funeral Services were 2 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2006 in the Mobley-Dodson Funeral Chapel in Sand Springs with Pastor Jake Knight and Elder Mike Naud officiating.
Interment followed in the Woodland Memorial Park in Sand Springs under the direction of the Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service of Sand Springs.
