David Appleton was the son of John W. and Susan Appleton. He died at age 8 months of lung fever. Within a few months, his unnamed sibling died at the age of 12 days. John Appleton was a lawyer who worked as a court register until mid 1845, when he was appointed to be the Chief Clerk of the US Navy Department. He and Susan then relocated to Washington DC and it was there that Susan died in 1879. No gravestones survive for David or his sibling at Eastern Cemetery, and they are among the 2000+ others who are simply designated as GSL - grave site lost.
