Achie enlisted at Pollard, AL September 7,1863; age 18, 5'6 ½ tall, gray eyes, light hair -last on file November 21, 1863 when paid $50 bounty for enlistment. "The fight at Jonesboro commenced at day light and lasted until late in the evening. The Confederates were forced to fall back. Arch Applin, a young man belonging to my company, was killed. This battle was August 30, 1864. On the 1st of September, General Hood gave up Atlanta.“ (Terry T. Shanks, Co. F)
(Note: Appling probably had a mortal wound but his death wasn't until September 8, 1864 Milner GA hospital according to date of coffin request. He enlisted in D originally with Capt. Bethune. The above appears courtesy of Sarah Fowler (#47553917).
