Archer was born Jan. 28, 1948, in Dodge City, to Lois and Vernie Archer.
A professional soldier, served 23 years in the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam 1967-1968 and was stationed in Geissun, Germany; Fort Hood, Texas; the Pentagon; Shape, Belgium; Heidelberg, Germany; and Fort Meade, Md. He retired as a staff sergeant E-6 Dec. 31, 1988.
