Armistead Allison Doggett, died Tuesday evening at 9:30 o'clock at the home in Villisca, his death resulting from stomach and bowel trouble with which he had suffered ten years. He was confined to his bed two weeks preceding his death.
He was born August 21, 1859 in Highland County, Ohio and was 68 years old at his death. He was married to Laura M. Trout in Hillsboro, Ohio on September 17, 1899, and to this union three children were born. They are Mrs. Dewey Johnson of Morton Mills and Irma and Donald Doggett of Villisca. Besides his wife and children, he leaves also one brother, John Doggett of Hartford, South Dakota and one sister, Mrs. Mary B. Moore of Gresham, Nebraska.
Mr. Doggett came to Villisca about 35 years ago to make his home. He served in the United States Army during the Spanish American War, being a first sergeant in Company 33, of Villisca. He was a member of the M.W.A. Lodge and of Marcellus Miller Post No 37.
The body was taken to the A. B. Wolfe Funeral Home and the funeral was held there Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. R. J. Blue in charge of the service. The singing was by Mrs. L. W. Scott, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Nordyke, and J.B. Means, and the pall bearers were all veterans of the Spanish American War, Were, Chas Foster, J. P. Moritz, J. A. Dunn, Tim Erickson, John Kernen, and S P. Moore. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. A firing squad from Company F. fired three volleys over the grave and the company bugler blew taps.
Those from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. Doggett's sister and Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Hawley of Gresham, Nebraska and J. L. Doggett of Stromsburg, Nebraska.
