On the 26 April 1872 the family, with their six surviving sons, sailed from Glasgow to Québec City, a 15-day voyage aboard the "St. Andrew".
His father became a farmer in St. Malachie d' Ormstown, Châteauguay, while Alexander Jr went on to become a gardener for the City of Montréal. In 1884 he married Rebecca McElrea at Stanley Presbyterian in Montréal. They had three children.
After retiring in 1921, two years later the couple decided to move in with their son in Brooklyn, NY, where Aleander passed away in 1928 (NY NY Death Certificate #13449, age: 72).
