Bertie Arms a longtime resident of Merced went to be with the Lord Saturday April 19 2003 at the age of 91. She was born May 5 1911 in Ada Oklahoma to William and Ada Hatcher. Bertie Arms was loved by many and charmed them with her quick wit and jovial manner. She was a homemaker who loved cooking for her family and friends. She was acclaimed for her peach clobbers and white coconut cakes.
With all that she still had time to help her husband in their earlier years as pastors . They were married July 26 1928 in Cordell Okla They moved to Dos Palos in 1939 and to Merced in 1944 where her husband and she were pastors of the Gospel Defenders Church on Snelling Road.
We will miss her but know that we can meet her again in Heaven.
Bertie Is preceded In death by her husband of 59 years Charlie Arms She leaves behind four children: Orville Arms, Juanita Hilton, Geneva Pettway and Charles Arms also 13 grandchildren 27 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren She leaves behind two brothers: Ramon Hatcher and Leon Hatcher and her sister Leila Batey and many many friends.
