Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. A Regular Officer in the US Army, he fought for the Union at the First Battle of Bull Run. He didn't decide to join the Confederacy until August 1861, when he resigned. He served on the staffs of CSA Generals James McIntosh and Ben McCulloch (who were both killed at the Battle of Pea Ridge). Promoted to Brigadier General, CSA in 1863.
