Bazil E. Arthur, 79, of Webster Springs died Sept. 13, 1998, in Genesis Health Ventures, Ansted, after a long illness.

He was a lifelong resident of Webster County, a member of Union Valley Union Mission, Diana, an Army veteran of World War II, and a former miner and truck driver.

Surviving: wife, Maxine V.; son, Ed Arthur of Carriere, Miss.; daughters, Judy Cockrill of Fort Myers, Fla., Suzanna McCoy of Webster Springs; brothers, Herbert Arthur of Albuquerque, N.M., Shelton Arthur of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Vesta Bender of Fort Smith, Ark., Zollabell Bland of Uniontown, Pa., Zetta Hamrick of Tallahassee, Fla., Elphra Noble of Roanoke, Va.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Dodd & Reed Funeral Home, Webster Springs, with the Rev. Sam Gray and the Rev. Arlin Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, Webster Springs. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
