Arvil L. Asher, 78, of Huntington, IN, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at 6:08 p.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital, Huntington.

Mr. Asher owned Asher Grocery in Corinth, KY, and retired from Majestic. He was a Master Mason in Masonic Lodge No. 128 and a 32-degree Mason, a Kentucky Colonel and band leader of Country Music Playboys.

He was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Hyden, KY, to James and Mary Wooton Asher. He married Helen Downey on June 27, 1953, in Clay County, KY. She survives.

Additonal survivors include seven children, Brenda L. (Dave) Hoover, Jesse L. Asher, Carolyn Sue (Clyde) Sprowl, Edmond (Tina) Asher, and Theresa D. (Bill) Kinsey, all of Huntington, Ernest Wayne Asher, of Markle, and Harley J. Asher, of Andrews; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Calling is Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Deal-Rice Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 338 E. Washington St., Huntington, with a grraveside service at Masonic Cemetery, Warren, immediately following. Rev. Elzie Spencer will officiate.

Preferred memorials are to the family in care of Deal-Rice Funeral Home, 338 E. Washington St., Huntington, IN 46750.
