He was affiliated with New Bethel Baptist Church and was a graduate of East Forsyth High School. He was a member of the U.S. Armed Forces – Army and American Legion Post #220. He worked at Merita bakery in Winston-Salem, NC for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and foster parents; his son, Anthony Ashe, Jr.; and foster brothers, Jeffery Addison and Chauncey Shuford.
Survivors include two daughters, Tanya Ashe of Durham, NC and Stefanie Ashe of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three brothers, Odell Ashe of Winston-Salem, NC, Walter and Thomas (Elizabeth) Ashe of Washington, DC; one sister, Mary Morgan of Washington, DC; two foster brothers, Dennis (Sophia) Addison of Woodlawn, TN and Donald (Cynthia) Addison of Kings Mountain, NC; foster aunt, Mary Shuler of Winston-Salem, NC; numerous "brothers and sisters" that he was raised with; four grandchildren, De'Jour, Akira, Amaya, and Eli; a very close cousin, Gloria Little of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of other very dear friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday, February 1, 2008 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery at 2 pm. Family visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am Friday at the funeral home.
The family will convene at the home of Mary Shuler, 2316 Stokes Ave., Winston-Salem, NC. Donations, cards and letters may be forwarded to the daughter, Tanya Ashe at 715 Laurel Springs Dr., Durham, NC 27713.
