Nila Mae Adams was born February 21, 1923 in Richland Springs, Texas. She was a loving mother that went to be with her loving Father in heaven on October 22, 2004.
Nila was the second-youngest of nine children. She grew up on a farm where she learned the value of hard work. She was the state high school tennis champion. Nila went to Daniel Baker College on a tennis scholarship. Then she went on to teach school at Vanderbilt, Texas.
She was swept off her feet by Chief Petty Officer James E. Ashworth. They married in 1946 and moved to El Paso, Texas. James, Nila and family moved to Farmington in 1952. Nila took loving pride as a homemaker. She instilled the importance of education and spiritual values in each of her children.
Nila was a substitute teacher in the Farmington School district for many years. She was a very supportive mom in all her children's activities. Nila was delighted to be able to witness all of her children attending New Mexico State University.
She was a faithful and long-standing member of the First Baptist Church and especially loved her Sunday school class. Nila was also a member of Eastern Star and the Farmington Garden Club and took a lot of pride in gardening.
Nila loved golfing at EPNG Riverview with her lady friends. Other hobbies included tennis, fishing, camping and water color painting.
James and Nila enjoyed traveling to many destinations after their retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, numerous brothers and sisters and her husband, James Ashworth and son, David Ashworth.
Nila is survived by daughter, Kim Williams and husband, Dennis, son Stephen Ashworth, daughter Deborah Harrison and husband, Dave, son, Allen Ashworth, Matt Ashworth and wife, Nancy. Grandchildren include Kelly Campbell, Holly Kerkes, Heather Harrison, Aaron Ashworth, Randy Ashworth, Dawn Ashworth, Dylan Ashworth and Adam Ashworth. Great-grandchildren include Jordan and Marisa Loraas and Hannah Rose Kerkes.
Visitation for Nila will be on Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Cope Memorial Chapel in Farmington. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Farmington with John Preston officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Farmington.
Pallbearers are Steve Ashworth, Matt Ashworth, Allen Ashworth, Dave Harrison, Dennis Williams, Aaron Ashworth, Dylan Ashworth, Adam Ashworth and Randy Ashworth.
Arrangements are entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel of Farmington, (505) 327-5142.
