Einar Swain Asmundson, age 97, went home to his Lord on Friday, April 10, 2009. He was born to Bjorn and Lukke (Benson) Asmundson in Upham, North Dakota on May 23, 1911, the fifth child in a family of 10.

Swain moved with the family to Blaine, Washington in 1929. He served for a time in the US Coast Guard and then in 1941 went to work at Boeing, where he met the love of his life and his future wife.

He was joined in marriage on October 9, 1943 to Billie Rawson; two children were born to this union. He continued to work at Boeing until 1976 when he retired. Einar was an avid Seattle sports fan; he enjoyed his family, his 6 grandchildren, traveling and playing Bridge and Pinochle. Einar was an especially kind and gentle man and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by Billie, his wife of 60 years, and 8 of his siblings. He is survived by his son, Bill Asmundson of Spokane, and his daughter, Mary Ann (Ron) Young, Bellingham; his sister, Ann Dopp of Seattle; his grandchildren, Paul, Ben and Joe Asmundson, all of Spokane, Amber Young of Fall Brook, CA, Blake Young of Bellingham, and Dalyce Young of Denver, CO; his daughter-in-law, Charmagne (Arne) Woodard of Veradale, WA, the special joy of being honorary great grandpa to Sophia and Nikolas Asmundson of Bellingham, and many nieces and nephews. Celebration of Swain's life will be at Good Shepard Church, 1254 W Smith Road, Bellingham at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, April 15th. Family wishes memorials be directed to Fairhaven Estates Assisted Living of Bellingham or Medic One.
