Alton "Dick" Aspinwall, 91, of Offerman passed away late Sunday evening, September 17, 2006, at the Pierce County Nursing Home.

Born in Pierce County, he had lived in many different locations with his career with the railroad before moving back to Pierce County in 1957. He retired from the ACL (now CSX) Railroad after 30 years of service and had also farmed. He was a member of the Offerman Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Patterson Masonic Lodge (# 583) that merged with the Blackshear Masonic Lodge, # 270. A son of the late Colon Harry "C.H." & Maude Milligan Aspinwall, he was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Debbie Johnson, and two sisters, Hazel Thomas and Hulda Jones.

Survivors are his wife, Mina Ophelia Smith Aspinwall, Offerman; a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth A. and Jim Johnson, Fayetteville; a son and daughter-in-law, James "Jim" and Iris Aspinwall, of Patterson; a sister, Mary Lou Byrd, Patterson; two grandchildren, Jo Ellen Aspinwall, Statesboro and Greg Johnson (wife Robin), Fayetteville; three great-grandchildren, Megan Johnson, Tallahassee, FL and Ryan Johnson and Kaitlyn Johnson, both of Fayetteville; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 21, from the Offerman Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in the Offerman Cemetery.

Visitation will take place from 5-8 this evening (Wednesday, Sept. 20) at the funeral home.
