Mayodan- Freddy Michael “Papa Freddy” Atkins, 76, entered into the more immediate presence of his Lord Sunday, November 2, 2014.

A 2:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Mayodan Moravian Church with Reverend Zach Dease officiating. Interment will follow in the church graveyard.

A Rockingham County native, Mike was born June 22, 1938, the son of Brantley and Cora Hodge Atkins. Mike graduated in 1956 from Mayodan High School and attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He was a member of Mayodan Moravian Church where he served as an elder, trustee, Sunday school teacher, choir member, hand bell choir member, and men’s chorus member. Mike served in the US Army Reserves. He was a retired drapery shop owner and had worked as a supervisor in several textile mills.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, David Michael Atkins; several sisters and brothers; special brother-in-law Jimmy Williams.

Mike is survived by his loving wife , Ann Atkins of the home; three children, Julie Farmer (Randy) of Stoneville, Kim Freeman (Ray) of Mayodan, and Mike Atkins (Joanie) of Mount Pleasant, SC; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and special niece Lois Shelly (Howard) of Coventry, England; several nieces and nephews.
