Reidsville - Lillian "Naomi" Carter Atkins, 71, passed away March 14, 2009 at Avante Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill McKinney and Elbert Paschal officiating. Interment will follow in Reidlawn cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Donny Childress, David Poythress, Bo Cook, Jerry Smithey, Timmy Smithey and Will Ward.

Mrs. Atkins was born in Rockingham County to the late Walter Frank and Stella Shelton Carter. She was of the Christian faith and was a member of Assembly of God Church. Naomi worked for Hooper and Moore as a seamstress and was well known to have the talent to be an excellent seamstress. Throughout her life she worked in sales and enjoyed helping people whenever she could. Naomi was a loving mother and grandmother and to her family and friends she was an exceptional caretaker and giver to all. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Garland E. Atkins

Naomi is survived by her daughters, Rita Smithey and husband, Randy of Reidsville and Tracey Lowery of Tolbert City; grandchildren, Dustin Smithey and Abby Jessie, nephews, Wayne Childress and Ludwick Summers; nieces, Tersa Fields, Cindy Poythress; sisters, Ann Weatherford and Wanda Stoddard and husband, Joe.
