Services for Samuel E. Atwell, 72, painting contractor of the South Hills, were held today with burial in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.
Mr. Atwell died Monday in the home of his daughter, Mrs. William J. Grim, 815 Gallion Ave., Brookline.
Mr. Atwell also leaves a son, Clifford C.; four sisters, Mrs. George Angle, Mrs. William Young, Mrs. Milton Beasley and Mrs. Katherine Humphreys, and ifve grandchildren.

Samuel E Atwell was born on April 2, 1871, in Washington, District of Columbia, to Sarah Emma Cole, age 19, and Joseph Horace Atwell, age 26. He married Effie A Grimsley and they had three children together. He died on March 4, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the age of 74, and was buried in Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Atwell, 72, was a well-know painting contractor in South Hills. He was a member of Dormont Lodge No. 684, F. and A. M., Chartiers Commandery, Knights Templar and Syria Temple.
