Son of William Henry Atwill Jr. and Elizabeth (Buller) Atwill, Rev. Monsignor William H. Atwill was born in Santa Monica, CA. He was a 1934 graduate of Loyola High School in Los Angeles, and ordained a Catholic priest on May 28, 1944, from St. John's Seminary in Camarillo. Among his early assignments were St. Isabel parish and St. Vibiana's Cathedral. He was the pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in East Los Angeles for 30 years, from 1957 to 1991, except for the years of 1970 to 1974, when he was pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle parish in the Pico-Union district of Los Angeles. After his retirement in 1991, Msgr. Atwill remained at Our Lady of Guadalupe as pastor emeritus until his death in 2005, age 89. The present church and parish hall at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish were built during his pastorate, in 1967.
