Ellie was born in New York City on May 1, 1943, daughter of Edgar S. Auchincloss III and Patty (Milburn) Auchincloss.
She graduated from Hollins University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English. She became a real estate agent, working in Darien and New Canaan, but her real passion was gardening. Her thumb began to turn green long ago, growing up on Keewaydin Farm in Darien, CT. She studied to become a Master Gardener and wielded hoe and spade at her home in New Canaan, which she dubbed “Whimsey Farm.” She possessed great curiosity about everything and cared deeply about learning throughout her life, setting a wonderful example for all her loved ones.
She leaves behind three children: Catherine Silvi, her husband, Ed, and their children, James and Hailey, of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania; Emily Agraz, her husband, Carlos, and their sons, Samuel and Lorenzo, of Luxembourg; and George Lewis and his daughters, Charlotte and Phoebe, of Trumbull, Connecticut. She will also be missed by her brother Edgar Stirling Auchincloss IV and his wife, Penny, and her brother George Milburn Auchincloss and his wife, Judy.
She was predeceased by her sister, Patty Auchincloss. Her grandchildren were six of her greatest joys in the last 15 years, and she loved keeping in touch with her nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
