He was the beloved husband of the late Jeanette O. Auger for more than 55 years. He was born in Putnam, CT, on August 28, 1926, the son of Herman Auger and Alice (Houle) Auger.
He served in the United States Navy from February 1944 until May 1946 as an electrician with the amphibious force and was promoted to coxswain in charge of the crew in the captain's absence. He trained in Maryland on LCTs and was then stationed at the naval air station in Lakehurst, NJ. During the war he served in Okinawa, Japan on LCT 1203 and the Sakishima Island for Japanese Occupation. Upon his discharge from the navy, he resided and worked in Killingly-Putnam area.
He was last employed as a custodian with the Killingly Public Schools until his retirement in 1980. He was a life member of the Amvets and the American Legion. He was a former Assistant Scout Leader – Putnam, CT, VFW member, Knights of Columbus member – Danielson, CT, Fire Police – Danielson, CT, Esteemed Leading Knight – Elks Club, Lodge #1706 of Danielson, CT, and retired locksmith and tool and die maker.
He is survived by two brothers – Leonard Auger of Putnam, CT and Paul Auger of Palm Bay, FL; two sisters – Irene Gagnon of Cocoa, FL and Doris Brewer of Coventry, RI; three sons – John N. Auger and Joseph M. Auger of Danielson, CT and Roger K. Auger of Dayville, CT, and a daughter, Nancy S. Albanese of West Kill, NY, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jeanette Auger, and his oldest son's twin, who died prior to birth.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 6, 2007, at St. Theresa's Church in Windham, NY, with interment at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2007, at the Maplewood Cemetery in South Jewett, NY.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Normand's memory be made to Community Hospice, 47 Liberty St., Catskill, NY 12414.
