Mrs. August, 83, Dies; Resided In NN 75 Years
Mrs. Carrie Johnson August, 83, who made her home with her sister, Mrs. George E. Eakins, New London, N. C., died at the home at 2 a. m. yesterday after an illness of one year.
She was the widow of John August.
Mrs. August was a native of Maryland but was a pioneer resident of Newport News, having resided in that city 75 years before moving to North Carolina several years ago.
She was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church.
Surviving are two sons, Lawrence B. August of Newport News and Arthur A. August of Orange, N. J.; two brothers, L. J. Johnson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Clarence B. Johnson of Portsmouth; one sister, Mrs. Eakins of New London, N. C.; two grandsons, and two great-granddaughters.
Rosary services will be held at 7:30 p. m. Monday in Peninsula Funeral Home.
A solemn requiem mass will be celebrated at 9 a. m. Tuesday in St. Vincent's Catholic Church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. William A. Gill, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
