Ephraim first came west in 1879, along with his brother-in-law, S.B. Lucas. He then lived in Montana for about ten years before returning to Alberta. Here Ephraim married Elaine Willet. Elaine was born about 1864 in England. Ephraim and Elaine had four children:
- Charles, d. before 1897 at Red Deer
- Archie; served in the Canadian Navy, died at White Rock, B.C.
- Jessie; married Charles Scanlan and died in California
- George Willett; b. Feb. 26, 1897 at Ponoka. George served in WWI (regimental #812230) as well as WWII, with the Merchant Marine. Married Ethel Carlson in 1944 and they had two children. Lived in California. George died Dec. 28, 1959.

Birth year estimated; census records vary between 1831 and 1837. The 1851 Canada census for Canada East (Quebec), Ottawa County, Hull, shows Ephraim's parents as William and Abigail Aylwin; siblings Thomas, Charles, Mary, William, Amelia, James and Eliza.
