Margaret Woods was the granddaughter of Major John and Catherine Evans Kennedy and daughter of Margaret Kennedy and SC State Rep. Col. James F. Woods with whose remains her remains are found in Row 6 of Old Purity. Margaret married Dr. Sydney Eugene Babcock by whom there were undetermined children prior to her death at age 30 during the war in 1864, presumably in her home area, but one of whom is buried beside her, Dr. James Woods Babcock, a famed medical researcher who opened a region's and a nation's eyes to the scourge of pellagra, including mental illness, and how readily it could be prevented by proper diet and nutrition. Dr. James W. Babcock attended Harvard Medical School, a minor feat for a South Carolinan in the first post-bellum decades .
