ELKHORN - Bert Babcock, 77, died last night in the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ross, with whom he had made his home for seven years.

Mr. Babcock had worked for many years a plumber, operating his own plumbing business and also working for MaGill Plumbing and Heating. He also farmed and operated the city dray line. He served with the Elkhorn volunteer fire department for more than 30 years.

The son of Henry and Marion Doane Babcock was born in the Town of LaFayette, Dec. 20, 1880, and lived in Walworth County his entire life. He married Margaret Lannon, daughter of Susan and John Lannon, May 10, 1904, at Elkhorn. She died in 1951.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Donald Ross, Elkhorn, three sons, Wesley, Glenn and Wallace, all of Elkhorn; a sister, Mrs. Harry Cain, Elkhorn; a brother, Ira, of Beloit; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A daughter, Arlene, preceded him in death.

Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Fredrickson Funeral home, the Rev. Thomas Kell, St. John's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hazel Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 - 4:30 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
