United States Naval Officer. He was mustered in as Private in Company A, 17th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on April 20, 1861, and served until honorably ustered out August 2, 1861.

He was commissioned as an Acting Assistant Paymaster in the Union Navy on November 19, 1862. After the war he was he remained in the Navy, being promoted to Passed Assistant Paymaster on July 23, 1866, Paymaster on June 11, 1868, and Pay Inspector on September 12, 1893. He retired May 23, 1894, and died October 11, 1895.

He was a great-great-grandson of Benjamin Franklin.
