Gar grew up in Eureka, Utah and lived six years in Alaska before returning to Salt Lake City. His career as a meteorologist spanned 34 years.
Throughout his long lifetime Gar was an enthusiastic outdoorsman and adventurer, well traveled to the many scenic and remote locations of the western continental U.S., Alaska and Canada.
Family and friends will remember Gar for his kind, caring and sincere nature. He was a longtime member of the LDS Church.
