Born in Astoria, Queens, N.Y., a daughter of Dr. Clyde Kenneth Conrad and Hazel Porterfield Conrad, she graduated from Horace Greeley High School and New York University.
Mrs. Baer received her master's degree from Queens College and completed work on her doctoral degree at New York University. She married Philip Charles Baer Jr., who died in 1979.
She taught elementary art in the Clarkstown School District, New York City, for 23 years.
She spent summers in this area for many years, moving with her husband to Lincolnville from Ringwood, N.J., in 1969. Mrs. Baer was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Camden, as well as the Episcopal Church Women.
She was also a member of the Lincolnville Women's Club, Lincolnville Business Club, Shakespeare Club, RSVP, and Midcoast Rose Society.
Mrs. Baer served as a volunteer and auxiliary member at Penobscot Bay Medical Center.
She was the owner of Red Barn Antiques on Route 1 for many years.
Mrs. Baer was devoted to her four Afghan hounds: Stewart, Peek-a-boo, Nancy and Isis. They were her faithful and loving companions, according to her family.
John and James Conrad, her brothers, died previously.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Cynthia Conrad of Union; and her nephews, Peter of Washington and John Conrad of California.
At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Chestnut Street, Camden, with the Rev. Michael G. Rowe officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Burial and committal will be at a later date at Fair Ridge Cemetery, Chappaqua, N.Y. Arrangements are by Laite and Pratt Funeral Home, Camden.
