1Lt Andrew Gerrard "Andy" Baer was the father of son, Jonathan "Andrew" and daughter, Kelly Baer, and husband to Carolyn Toby Baer. Andy was a Christian.

Along with his twin brother, Col Peter Gerrard "Pete" Baer, he was a 1979 graduate of Terre Haute North High School and 1984 Graduate of Indiana State University. At ISU, he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

He was a member of the Indiana Air National Guard, 181 Fighter Group, 113 Fighter Squadron, based at Hulman International Airport in Terre Haute, IN. As did his brother Pete, he served as an F-4 Phantom II Weapons Systems Officer (WSO or "wizzo") and navigator.

At the time of his death he flying a training mission over the Fallon, Nevada desert with his pilot, Captain Ralph Miller (also a native of Terre Haute and fellow graduate of THNS and ISU) when their jet crashed during a high-speed, low-altitude turning maneuver. At the outset of the mishap, Andy initiated a dual-sequenced ejection that was unsuccessful due to the low altitude and aircraft attitude.

His family and friends take great pride in Andy's actions that day, in his attempt to save Ralph's life and his own.

He was a deeply loved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend and in our memories remains so.
