Our sweet Adelila Marie Bagley passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012 following a brief illness.
Marie (Aunt Marie to many!) was born in Salt Lake City on August 24, 1928 to Hawley and Adelila Bagley. She was their beautiful baby daughter, the youngest of five children. Marie leaves a legacy of music, of performing, of laughing, of loving, of service, of family and many friends who loved her.
Marie was raised in the East Mill Creek area of Salt Lake City. She attended schools in Salt Lake, and then attended BYU. She left home for Washington D.C. where she lived and worked for several years. She served an LDS Mission to Denver, Colorado. Marie joined the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in 1954 and sang with them until 1981. She loved singing with the Choir and made lifelong friends from that wonderful experience. Marie loved performing in plays, musicals, and was a regular performer at the Promised Valley Theater for many years, as well as performing for many private, church, and civic functions. She had the voice of an angel, one of her many gifts. In addition to her Tabernacle Choir service, Marie served in many Church callings during her lifetime; she served many people, including caring for her mother in her declining years. She also loved her service as a worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Although Marie never had children of her own, she had dozens of nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand- nephews whom she loved. Family was everything to her and she loved nothing better than a family gathering, especially when music and singing were involved.
Marie married Jared Brown in the Salt Lake Temple in 1971. This later ended in divorce, but she gained an additional family through that union. The Brown family adopted her and treated her as one of their own.
Marie had little of the world's material things, but saved up many eternal treasures. She was pure, virtuous, lovely, and loved her Heavenly Father. She is now with Him, with her Savior, and with her beloved Mother and Father, brothers Gerald (Jiggs) and Allen, sisters in-law June and Barbara, and her grand-niece Hailey, who preceded her in death.
Marie is survived by her brother, Melvin J. Bagley, of Henderson, Nevada, and her sister, Jeanne (LeRon) Low, of Southern Alberta, Canada, and many beloved nieces, nephews. The past few years have given Marie physical and health challenges, but she handled her trials with a grace and optimism that amazed all those who knew and loved her. We will miss her, but know she lived her life well and has fulfilled her mission on earth.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Crosslands Rehabilitation Facility, who gave Marie their tender loving care during the past three years.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Fort 4th Ward located at 6710 South 1300 East in Midvale, Utah. Friends may visit with family on Sunday, December 9th at Larkin Sunset Garden Mortuary located at 1950 East 10600 South from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Marie would be honored to have donations made in her name to the L.D.S. Church Missionary Fund or Perpetual Education Fund.
