Col. Bajer died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at Dorn VA Medical Center. Born in Hammond, Ind., he was a son of the late John Wociech Bajer and Stasia Raczek Bajer.
Raised in Chicago, he graduated from St. Cyril Carmellite grade school and Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago and continued studies at the Pontifical University Seminary of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Ill. Col. Bajer retired from the U.S. Army in which he completed 13 years of active duty and 15 years reserve service in which he served the last nine years as instructor of Military Sciences at the off campus Command General Staff College. Col. Bajer also completed the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the 49 week Polish language course at the Monterey Language School in California. During his long life, Col. Bajer had a deep appreciation for many aspects of Polish life especially those impinging upon history, language, literature, art and especially music.
