By about 1935 the family had moved to the Elkton-North East area of Cecil County, Maryland, but he 'd moved back to Grayson County. He entered the U.S. Army on 24 March 1943 at Abingdon, Virginia, and was later transferred into the Army Air Corps, later flying bombing missions as a crewmember over Italy. After World War-II, he moved back to Grayson County, VA, where he spent the rest of his life in or near Independence, VA. Divorced in 1986.
