Al passed away April 1, 2003, at Yuma Regional Medical Center in Yuma. He was born July 27, 1924 in Wellton (Calford), Arizona, to Albert and Frances Baker.

Al was in the U.S. Navy from September 1941 to December 1945, when he was honorably discharged. During this time he proudly served on the USS Guadalupe. He and his wife Mary attended many of the USS Guadalupe reunions. Al had many special relationships with his fellow comrades.

Al worked at the U.S.M.C. Commissary. He retired after 30 years of service, in 1988.

Al was a member of the Eagles, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post #19 of which he had earned his 50 year certificate.

Al's biggest attribute to life was his love for his faith, family and friends. He never met a stranger, he loved everyone and everyone loved him. Al enjoyed the outdoors in the Yuma deserts and was always ready to go camping or out for a daily jaunt with his family. Al was very knowledgeable of the history in the Yuma County area and was always eager to share it with anyone who showed interest. His favorite was Baker's Tanks information, as he grew up in this area and knew the lore from his ancestors first hand.

Al is survived by his loving wife of five years, Mary Montana Baker; his daughters Jennette Solo (A.J. Underwood) and Elizabeth "Skeeter" (Manuel) Balli; stepchildren William P. (Litzalli) Yoakum, Maryann Moreno (Javier Sardina), James J. (Gloria) Yoakum and Phyllis Yoakum (Joey Martinez); brother Edward (Sonny) Baker; 19 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends of which will greatly miss him.

Pallbearers are Manuel Balli, Christopher Balli, Bobby Baker, A.J. Underwood, Joey Martinez and Jimmy Yoakum.
Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Sanchez, Anthony Espino and Joe Sanchez.

Viewing will be at Yuma Mortuary on Friday, April 4, 2003 at 4:00 pm, with the Rosary at 7:00 pm.

Services are at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 417 S. 15th Ave., Yuma at 9:00 am on Saturday April 5, 2003.
