He was the son of Dudley Baldwin (Y. C. 1777) and a nephew of Abraham Baldwin, (Y. C. L762,) one of the fraTners of the Constitution of the U S., and of Henry Baldwin, (Y C 1797,) one of the Judges of the Supreme Court of the U. S
He studied law, but declined to enter upon its practice, residing thiough his life on Greenfield Hill, chiefly engaged in agricultural pursuits, and occasionally in the discharge of pub- lic offices to which he was called by his fellow citizens He was several times a member of the House of Kepresentatives, and also of the Senate of Connecticut, and while a Senator he was a member of the Corporation of Yale College.
