Mrs. Mary Ackley Dies in Cortland
Lived in Rome For Many Years
Mrs. Mary Camilla Baldwin Ackley, 11 Church St., Cortland, a former resident of Rome, died in Cortland Hospital at 3:45 a. m. today after an illness of several days. Born in Utica, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Baldwin. She was married to John D. Ackley, Rome, who died Oct. 17, 1943. Mr. Ackley was employed by Broughton Drug Co. as a salesman and later opened the J. D. Ackley Drug Store on the American Corner, which he operated for many years. He sold the business to Broderick and Everson in 1915, after which he moved to Homer and opened the Ackley-Rexall Drug Store which he operated until his retirement in 1938. While in Rome, Mrs. Ackley was a member of the Zion Episcopal Church and was very active in the Fort Stanwix Chapter, DAR Surviving are two stepsisters, Mrs. Lloyd Castle, Rome, and Mrs. Ella Kilts. Oneida: one stepbrother, B. J. Shaver, Camden, and two nephews, Harry and Burt Lewis, Rome. Among her cousins is Charles W. Williamson, Rome. The body will be brought to the Waldo Wiggins Prince Home for Funerals where services will be held Tuesday afternoon. Interment will be in the Rome Cemetery.
