Charles was married to Emily Harrington on 15 Sep 1860 in Sanilac County, Michigan, USA. They initially resided in Huron County, but temporarily moved to St. Clair County, and then back to Huron. About 1890, they headed westward, first settling in Washington State. They moved to the Los Angeles area about 1904. Charles and Emily had no biological children, but then adopted one son, William Stanford Ball.

C., July 8, 1865, from 243d company, Seventeenth Battalion Provisional Cavalry Veteran Reserve Corps.
