John was a tailor circa 1650 at Watertown, Middlesex Co., MA.

About the year 1655, his first wife became violently insane, which likely accounts for the apprenticing of their children.

He sold his farm in Watertown 21 October 1665 and moved to Lancaster, Worcester County, Mass. where he was one of the three earliest settlers.

John Ball, his second wife and son Joseph were slain on 10 Feb 1675 in the attack upon the town of Lancaster by Indians. Two other children were taken into captivity.
