Opal Ballard, 83, of Albany died Tuesday in Portland.

She was born in Otis, Colo., the daughter of Leo Harvey and Genevieve Gertrude (Beckham) Corbin. She moved to Washington at the age of 16, where she graduated from high school.

Opal married Eulus Ellis Ballard on Sept. 7, 1944, in St. Frances, Kan. They moved to Albany in 1971. She owned the King Kone Drive-In with her husband from 1976 to 1996. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1991.

Her family was her focus and she loved watching over them and taking care of them.

She is survived by daughters Sandy Caputo, Norene Ballard and Linda Clifton, and sons Steven Ballard, Douglas Ballard and Terry Joe Ballard, all of Albany; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brothers Leland Corbin of Seattle and Lyle Corbin of Paris, France. She was preceded in death by her husband; son Ellis Ballard; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and one brother.

A graveside service will be Tuesday at the Willamette Memorial Park mausoleum.
